Enda Cummins
Enda Cummins is a Professor in the UCD School of Biosystems and Food Engineering, University College Dublin. He specialises in risk assessment, food safety, and systems-modelling approaches to support public health and agri-food decision‑making. His research integrates quantitative modelling, predictive microbiology, and “farm‑to‑fork” systems analysis to assess and mitigate risks within complex food and environmental pathways. He has supervisor to completion 17 PhD students in the area of predictive modelling and risk assessment and has published over 170 publications in international peer reviewed journals (h-index 55).
He has led and contributed to numerous national and EU‑funded research projects addressing food safety and technological innovation in the agri-food sector, including Coordinator of a H2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie ITN Predictive mOdelling Tools to evaluate the Effects of Climate change on food safeTy (PROTECT, 2019-2023 ). Prof. Cummins regularly collaborates with academic, industry, and regulatory partners and contributes expert advice to national and international bodies involved in food safety and public health protection, including the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). In addition to his research activities, he supervises undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD students, and contributes to the development of risk assessment capacity through his teaching and professional training.
